Guide · Website without inquiries Your website gets visits but no inquiries: 7 places you lose customers

When a website is not generating leads despite steady traffic, customers usually drop off at one of seven places: an unclear first screen, a slow mobile site, hard-to-find contact details, a form that asks too much, missing proof where decisions are made, services without their own pages, or no measurement at all. Most can be spotted with a phone and free tools. For each, we explain why it costs you customers, how to recognise it and how to fix it.

01Why does my website get no inquiries when it gets visits?

A website gets no inquiries when visitors hit an obstacle on the way to contact: they don't understand the offer, don't trust it or can't see how to get in touch. They decide quickly, and the next search result, often a competitor, is one tap away.

Before changing anything, check two things. First, whether visits come from the right people: if you serve one city but traffic comes from abroad or from bots, the cause is the traffic source. Second, whether inquiries are missing or just unrecorded: a customer who calls from your Google Business Profile leaves no trace in analytics. If you are asking why your website brings no clients, start with the seven places below.

02The first screen doesn't say what you do, for whom and what comes next

On the first screen, the part visible before scrolling, visitors decide whether they are in the right place. A generic line such as “Quality and trust since 2005” or a five-message slider leaves them guessing what the business sells, and few will bother.

How to spot it: show your homepage on a phone to someone who doesn't know your business, for five seconds. If they can't then say what you do, for whom and what to tap next, the first screen isn't working.

The fix is a headline with the service and location, such as “Air conditioning servicing in Belgrade”, one sentence on why you, and one clear button. The site we built for Inarireach, a cold email outreach agency, has a single call to action throughout: a booked consultation.

03The site loads slowly on mobile

A large share of visits comes from phones, often over mobile data, and visitors abandon a slow site before they see the offer. Speed, measured through Core Web Vitals, is also a Google ranking signal.

How to spot it: enter your address in PageSpeed Insights (pagespeed.web.dev) and check the mobile result. The key metric is LCP (Largest Contentful Paint), the time until the largest element on the first screen appears. Orange or red means visitors wait too long. Then try the site on your phone, off Wi-Fi.

Common causes are heavy images, page builders, surplus plugins and weak hosting. Start with images (compression and modern formats), then scripts, theme and hosting. The custom WordPress site of Blue Eyed Phoenix, a studio in Belgrade's Vračar district, has a measured Lighthouse mobile performance score of 97 out of 100.

04Contact details are hard to find and the path to an inquiry is too long

A visitor ready to get in touch won't hunt for how. If the number sits only in the footer, can't be tapped to call, or the only route is the Contact page, some ready buyers give up at the last step.

How to spot it: on your phone, open a service page and count the taps to a call or message. Tap the phone number too: if it doesn't start a call, it is just text.

The fix is a tappable number in the header, an inquiry button on every page and a call to action wherever a decision is made. On the Pogrebno Božur funeral services site, phone, WhatsApp and Viber appear on every page, because a family seeking help, often at night, has no patience for extra steps.

05The inquiry form asks too much or never confirms it was sent

Every field is one more question before an answer, and address, company number or budget can wait. A form that says nothing after submission does equal harm: the customer can't tell whether it arrived, so they resend it or call a competitor.

How to spot it: send a test inquiry from your phone. Count the required fields, then check for a confirmation and whether the inquiry lands in your inbox or spam. Form messages sometimes land in spam for months before anyone notices.

The fix: name, phone or email and a short message are enough. After submission, show a confirmation with a reply time, and send the site's email through a reliable service with SPF and DKIM records for your domain. Repeat the test after every major change.

06There is no proof where the customer makes the decision

A customer who doesn't know you looks for a reason to believe: reviews, references, photos of real work, case studies, certificates. If all proof sits on a separate page, a service page shows only your own claims.

How to spot it: on your best-selling service page, look around the inquiry button. If there is no review, finished project or concrete fact about the business, the customer decides without proof.

DIHT Stolarija, a Belgrade company for PVC windows and doors, had more than 400 Google reviews with a 5.0 rating by its own figures, yet its old Wix site did not carry that reputation. In the redesign, the call to action sits where the decision is made, and the company updates its gallery and references itself.

The fix: your two or three strongest pieces of proof next to each service and the form. Use only proof you can show; invented reviews quickly destroy trust.

07All services sit on one page, so none matches a specific search

Customers search for one specific thing, such as “PVC window repair” or “accountant for freelancers”. A shared Services page struggles to rank for each of those searches, and visitors on it must dig for their service.

How to spot it: in Google Search Console, open the Performance report and see which searches your site appears for. If your main service names bring no impressions, or everything leads to the homepage, your services have nowhere to rank.

The fix: every important service gets its own page, with the service and location in the title, a process description, FAQs, proof and a call to action. For DIHT Stolarija, sales, installation, servicing and repair have four separate pages. Such a page also works as a landing page for Google Ads.

08You don't measure where visits and inquiries come from

Without measurement you don't know which channel brings customers, which page loses them or whether a change helped, so decisions about the site and ads rest on gut feeling.

How to spot it: if you can't say how many inquiries the site brought last month and from where, measurement is missing. In Google Analytics 4, check whether form submissions and taps on the phone number are set up as key events.

The fix: GA4 with key events for forms, calls and messages, linked to Google Search Console and, if you advertise, to Google Ads. Tag ads and social posts with UTM parameters, and ask every new customer how they found you. Only then can you see which of the previous six places loses you the most customers.

09What to fix first when your website gets no inquiries

Start with the quickest changes that affect every visitor. Our suggested order:

If the site fails at most of these places and sits on a page builder or a platform that limits structural changes, compare the cost of fixes with a redesign.

  • ✦Set up form and call tracking to see the effect of each change.
  • ✦Run the phone test: tappable number, contact path, test inquiry.
  • ✦Rewrite the first screen of the homepage and main service pages.
  • ✦Put proof next to the call to action.
  • ✦Fix mobile speed, starting with images.

What should I do if my website is not generating leads?

Set up inquiry tracking first, then run a phone test: does the first screen say what you do, can the number be called with one tap, and does a test inquiry arrive and get confirmed? These changes are quick and affect every visitor. Next, fix mobile speed, put proof next to the call to action and create separate pages for your main services.

How many inquiries should my website bring for its traffic?

There is no universal figure, because a website's conversion rate depends on the industry, the price of the service, the traffic source and how ready visitors are to buy. Someone needing an urgent repair gets in touch faster than someone comparing offers. It is more useful to track your own site over time: measure inquiries now, make a change, then compare.

Do I need a new website to get more inquiries?

Not necessarily. Most of this guide can be fixed on your existing site: the first screen, a tappable number, a shorter form with confirmation, proof next to the call to action, and measurement. A redesign makes sense when the problem lies in the foundations: the site is slow because of a page builder or theme, or the platform won't allow new service pages.

How can I check whether my website is slow on mobile?

The quickest way is the free PageSpeed Insights tool: enter your address and check the mobile result. Check the Core Web Vitals assessment and LCP, the time until the largest element on the first screen appears. Green is good, orange needs improvement, red means visitors wait too long. For low-traffic sites Google lacks real-user data, so use the lab test in the same report.
